– Commends School Management for Quality Facilities
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has visited the Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences, Ukanafun, in Akwa Ibom State, on a final accreditation exercise, acknowledging that the College has quality facilities.
Speaking during the Council’s visit to the College on Tuesday, September 23, the Chief Executive Officer/Registrar, NMCN, Mr. Ndagi Alhassan, said that the team was particularly impressed with the facilities – nursing and midwifery lab, ICT centre with 60 computers, CBT centre with 350 computers, male and female hostels, among others.
Mr. Alhassan further disclosed that from the team’s assessment, all the facilities were functioning optimally, commending the management of the College for prioritising quality and standard while pursuing the establishment of the Institution.
“I must commend your effort in having your people in mind and also bringing the institution home. As I said earlier in the morning, accreditation is not aimed at finding fault, rather just to maintain standards. This College is very strategic to the state and country because of the additional opportunities that it will bring.
We have been facing the challenge of massive exodus of nurses to other parts of the world where they go to render services which automatically depletes the number of nurses that are available at home to care for the populace,” he said.
He further noted that with the steady rise in Nigeria’s population, there was urgent need for the country to have more well-trained nurses.
On her part, the Director of Nursing Services in Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Patricia Etim, assured the team from NMCN that the Akwa Ibom State Nursing and Midwifery Committee has been working closely with the management of the College to ensure that the institution meets the standards.
While commending the leadership of NMCN for the visit, she expressed her belief that the outcome of the visit will favour the institution, nursing education in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria, adding that Akwa Ibom State was poised to become a pace-setter in nursing education.
Speaking on behalf of the College, the Chairman of the College Governing Council, Mr. Ndianaabasi Udom, thanked the team for identifying the institution’s areas of strength and advising on the areas that needed more work, assuring that the management will keep working towards meeting all the expectations of the team.
“One of the reasons why we decided to come up with a nursing college was to ensure that we assist and contribute our own quota in shaping the future of healthcare, which is our motto. We’ve identified the gaps and we know the demand for nurses is not just in our state being where we reside or where we are operating from, but in Nigeria and indeed the entire world.
I can assure you that we have done our very best, but we are open to advice, we are open to corrections, we are open to every form of assistance. We are here for corrections. We are here for collaborations. We are here for you to tell us what to do. We are here for advice,” he said.
The team from Abuja also included the Director, Certificate Department, NMCN, Mrs. Patricia Anonubog, and Mr. Hassan Abdullah, Accreditation Department, NMCN. Others in attendance during the visit were members of the Governing Council of the Institution.
Sure Foundation College of Nursing Sciences, Ikot Akai, Ukanafun Local Government Area, is a premier private institution dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare as well as committed to excellence in nursing and midwifery education.
